Ingrid Baars graduated from the Willem de Koonig Academy in Rotterdam in the early 1990s and worked as a independent illustrator and photographer until 2009 when she decided to concentrate solely on her artistic work, wich previously coexisted with her commercial activities.  Her signature style came into being and grew from collage to full-blown digital treatment of her images. « l’Afrique ! » is a fascinating ongoing project inspired by the richness of African cultural heritage in all its diversity, incorporating as it does both the human and the non-human.  The amalgamation of classical African cult objects and real woman enables the artist to transcend the natural and constitute an outerwordly realm that feels near but that is, upon closer inspection, quite unsettling.  With her innate aesthetic compass and quintessential style she succeeds in evoking a phantasmagorical universe.

Ingrid Baars diplomée de la Willem de Koonig Academy à Rotterdam en 1990 a travaillé comme illustratrice et photographe indépendante jusqu’en 2009.  Elle décide ensuite de se concentrer exclusivement sur son parcours artistique.  Son style, sa touche personnelle se caractérisent par le collage, devenu le procédé de traitement numérique de ses images.  « l’Afrique ! » est un projet évolutif, inspiré de la richesse et de l’héritage culturel Africain dans sa diversité.  Un héritage qui incorpore l’humain et le non-humain.  La combinaison d’objets de cultes africains classiques et de portraits de femmes vivantes permet à l’artiste de transcender le naturel et de créer un univers troublant à la limite du réel.  La boussole esthétique innée d’Ingrid Baars et son style profondément individuel sont les clés qui lui permettent de nous dévoiler son univers fantasmagorique.
